Gaia

This image is watercolor on paper 22×30 inches in size. Was completed in 2010. I wanted to create an image that somehow spoke about the environment, strongly, but did not seem preachy. After much experimentation I came up with this image of a woman clothed in Tree Leaves, that integrated seamlessly with her. As I began transferring her to the paper I realized the image required more width and depth than my first drawing was capable of providing, unassisted. It then dawned on me that maybe representations of the four winds might work layered over an abstracted tree. This resulted in the basic Image you see here. All that was left to fill were the colors. Gaia has been featured in the Sacramento Bee Arts section. It is sealed in Golden UV protectant sealer.
